Celeste Mann is a dynamic performer with a rare and beautiful voice. In addition to her one of a kind vocal timbre and
extensive range, Celeste brings intelligence, creativity, an engaging stage presence and a commitment to "opera as theatre"
to her roles. Most recently, Celeste sang with Opera Company of Philadelphia in TURANDOT, with Empire Opera as Frugola, in
IL TABARRO, and covered Lily and Maria in PORGY & BESS in Warsaw, Poland at the National Opera House. She also covered
Lily in PORGY & BESS at the Latvian National Opera House and in the Saaremaa Opera Festival in Estonia. In 2008 Celeste sang
at the Metropolitan Opera in the Extra Chorus.
Previously she covered Maria in PORGY & BESS with Utah Festival Opera Company, was the mezzo soloist, in Verdi’s
MESSA DI REQUIEM with NY Choral Society’s Summer Sings and sang Ulrica in UN BALLO IN MASCHERA and Doņa Francisca
in DONA FRANCISQUITA, both in New York City. Other recent roles included the Witch in HANSEL UND GRETEL and Mamma Lucia in
CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA.
In 2005 Celeste performed Mamma Lucia in CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA for the Atlantic Coast Opera Festival. Closer to home, she
sang Third Lady in THE MAGIC FLUTE with New York Metro Vocal Arts Ensemble, and she performed as Carmen, Third Lady and Nicklausse,
in scenes from CARMEN, DIE ZAUBERFLOTE and LES CONTES D'HOFFMANN with Northport Opera Company.
Celeste has participated in V.O.I.C.Experience with Sherrill Milnes and Friends, and had the opportunity to coach with him,
Jennifer Larmore and stage director Fabrizio Melano. She performed scenes from MADAMA BUTTERFLY (Suzuki) and OTELLO (Emilia).In
2004 Celeste returned to the Jarvis Conservatory, to play Moma and the featured role, Juana, in LUIS ALONSO. Her performance
as Juana, received critical and audience acclaim. The DVDs of LUIS ALONSO and Antologia 2004 have been released.
In 2003 Celeste was a member of the Caramoor Young Vocal Artists Ensemble, and performed in the Caramoor International Music
Festival in ELISABETH and as La Marquise in the Lesson Scene (LA FILLE DU REGIMENT) in DONIZETTI ABROAD. Celeste created
the role of Bona di Guelfuccio in IL POVERELLO, in Assisi, Italy. Easily at home in opera and zarzuela, Celeste excelled
as Menegilda in the 30 performance run of BROADWAY/LA GRAN VIA at Thalia Spanish Theatre in NYC. This leading comic role engaged
her singing, speaking, acting and dancing talents.
A former Resident Artist of Dicapo Opera Theatre, Celeste was awarded the Gary Giardina Young Artist Award for Excellence
and Loyalty at Dicapo. She has also won the Premio Studio Monte dei Paschi di Siena, awarded by Siena's Dante Alighieri
Society. Recently Celeste received full scholarships from the Assisi Music Fest and Maud Powell Opera Institute. Fluent in
Spanish and Portuguese, Celeste has lived and studied in Brazil, the Dominican Republic and Mexico. She achieved a BA with
Distinction in Spanish from Yale University and a Masters from the University of Iowa. An avid performer of sacred music,
Celeste reprises her solo recital Songs in the Spirit:a concert of sacred music, which explores American and Western and Eastern
European works.
